In exchange for room and board, a percentage of net proceeds and a life altering experience, come live with me, learn with me, come to understand, and help me to write this story and make a positive difference in the lives of many…
In 2002, we formed the foundation, Creativity Heals, with the idea of the Healing Power of Creativity that stimulated the 2003 National Multiple Sclerosis Society calendar in the USA. I had worked with the MS society since 1980, helping to raise millions of dollars for a project I co-created, the “Race Against MS”, involving thoroughbred horse racing. Please see “Media” on our web page.
I have recently dictated/written approximately 130,000 words from birth to March,, 2011, my 62nd birthday month. They were written as a stream of consciousness Timeline…
Once again, while interned with a broken back in a rehabilitation center in Buenos Aires, Argentina (FLENI), more doctors highly suggested I write a book. I was surrounded with spine injuries, head injuries, quadriplegia, people with their lives changed forever. My own brother lived for 30 years as a quadriplegic caused by a car accident when he was only 21, and his story alone is an inspiration. I began to help many people in the rehab center with my life stories, of my father´s suicide after my brother´s accident, my mother´s mental illness and all of her subsequent hospitalizations, as well as my own experiences of 35 years living with multiple sclerosis (first major paralysis in 1976, age 27). Attitude, perspective, and laughter are key elements to healing and coping!
I felt as though I had found a true purpose in the rehab center…Giving comfort to the people that were in a state of shock standing by their loved ones, sharing my family’s history, as well as my own life serving as an example and an inspiration to the patients. I truly was able to give them hope, that things can get better if you don’t quit and if one gives and receives love, has faith, and continues to participate in life.
After 3 months of reaching out to these people I became depressed, often crying myself to sleep. I realized that I could no longer be so intimately involved as it drained my life force. Once again, with the urging of my doctors, I returned to the idea of writing a book. I recognize and am familiar with the power of media.
At this point I am 62 years old, recovering from a broken back, and after 35 years of living with multiple sclerosis (relapsing-remitting type), I am finding my drawing hand impaired and my eyes and body degenerating. I remember a famous poet wrote…
“If I can keep one heart from breaking, I will not have lived in vain”
I add, “If I can help one heart to heal, I will not have lived in vain.”
